This year sees the widest range of jazz bands to date, and I am impressed with the quality on offer in the 2017 program. I am also pleased to see an increase in regional jazz band participation – you are very welcome at our Central Victorian festival!
A number of new CBD venues have been added this year to allow festival goers the chance to walk around most of the festival. I would like to welcome the Anglican Church as a Venue Partner, and as a joint partner for the Sunday Jazz Mass, open to everyone in our community. The Theatre Royal, in the town centre and also a new Venue Partner, hosts our closing festival dance party on Sunday night, with guest appearance by Hetty Kate. Just up the hill is the Castlemaine Old Gaol, easily accessed by car or by jumping on our complimentary shuttle bus.
Castlemaine Jazz Festival Inc. is a not-for-profit association run entirely on ‘volunteer power’. We work extremely hard for around eight months to bring you this festival. A heartfelt thanks to my committee team, without which there would be no festival. Thanks also to our wonderful musicians and to our generous volunteer team.
Finally, I extend my committee’s thanks to our major Program Partner, Mount Alexander Shire, for supporting this festival, and also to our local sponsor partners for their generosity. We hope you all enjoy the 2017 festival offerings.
